USA Swim Meets

USA Swimming meets are a fun opportunity for swimmers to put their hard work into action, challenge themselves, and compete alongside their teammates. If you're transitioning from summer swim, you'll notice a few differences but you'll get the hang of it quickly!

USA Swim meets are typically held over 2-3 days and swimmers may choose to attend each day or choose only 1 or 2 of the days of each meet. Most meets are held in the Richmond area, though we also travel to locations such as Lynchburg, Williamsburg, and Stafford throughout the season.

Unlike the JSL, where coaches typically select each swimmer's events, our swimmers choose the events they'd like to swim. Coaches are always happy to provide guidance and recommendations to help swimmers select events that support their goals. Most swimmers compete in 2–4 events per session, with time between races to rest, cheer on teammates, and prepare for their next event.

USA Swim meets put more of the focus on personal improvement. Swimmers race to achieve personal best times, build confidence, learn race strategy, and work toward qualifying for championship meets. Whether it's a swimmer's first meet or their hundredth, every race is an opportunity to learn and grow.

Your first meet may feel a little overwhelming, but our coaches and experienced families are always happy to help. Be sure to check out our Meet Day Checklist and How to Read a Heat Sheet guides to help you feel prepared before your first competition.
